Passengers up 2.2% at Birmingham Airport

Birmingham Airport handled 610,216 passengers in November, an increase of 2.2 percent over the previous year. The airport had 511,481 (83.8 percent) scheduled passengers and 98,735 (16.2 percent) charter passengers spread across its two passenger terminals.
In November Non EU routes were up 6.6 percent and EU routes up 2.2 percent. The Irish Republic saw an increase of 11.3 percent, and the Channel Isles an increase of 30.9 percent. Long-haul routes to Asia saw an increase of 11.7 percent and transatlantic routes saw an increase of 10.2 percent.
Scheduled routes experiencing growth in November included: Bratislava (+1720.6 percent), Barcelona (+152.6 percent), Murcia (+139.7 percent), Paphos (+121.7 percent), Faro (+114.5 percent), Arrecife (+46.8 percent), Nice (+28.1 percent) and Lyon (+25.9 percent). Charter routes that experienced growth included: Malta (+85.7 percent), Mexico (+26.3 percent), Maderia (+23.4 percent) and Spain (+10.8 percent).
Joe Kelly, Managing Director of Birmingham Airport said: 'It was another busy month, with passengers taking advantage of our new route to Shannon with Ryanair and additional capacity to Bratislava with SkyEurope. We are now entering the winter season and are expecting a busy Christmas and New Year period.'
