Loganair Dundee – Birmingham flights available, but problems for Belfast
12.03.08
Tickets have gone on sale for the first scheduled flights from Dundee to Birmingham Airport operated by Loganair. However, the airlines service between Dundee and Belfast has run into problems before it has taken off. BBC Scotland has reported that Loganair unveiled the service before commercial arrangements had been finalised with Belfast City Airport, and it has now had to delay selling flights on the route.
Both routes were to be introduced on May 21, with the Scottish airline saying that it will introduce more and new services from Dundee airport in the coming years. It has started selling tickets on the Dundee - Birmingham route, which will have three return flights on weekdays as well as an evening Sunday service. Tickets starts at £35 one way.
However, Loganair said in an announcement that it 'also plans a new route between Dundee and Belfast on May 21, but is awaiting slot approval at Belfast City Airport before releasing tickets for sale.' The BBC reports that Loganair is waiting for confirmation of landing and take-off times and is not able to say when tickets will go on sale, but is insisting the Dundee-Belfast service will begin as planned.
Details of the new links follow an announcement by the airline in January that it is to create a new base at Dundee airport as part of a franchise agreement with Flybe. The new route(s) will operate under the Flybe banner ahead of the franchise arrangement between the two companies, which starts on October 25.
