Birmingham Airport cannabis smuggler jailed

A man has been found guilty of trying to smuggle £43,000 of cannabis through Birmingham Airport after a holiday to Jamaica. Customs staff found 15kg of cannabis in Harry Nazarowicz’s suitcase after he got off a plane from Montego Bay last July.
During the two-day trial at Coventry Crown Court, the jury heard that Mr Nazarowicz, aged 37, from Warrington, near Manchester, had admitted smoking cannabis and taking cocaine while he was in Jamaica. He had paid £1,700 in cash for the holiday and had booked it to impress a woman in the hope that they would have a holiday romance and fall in love. Instead, things between them turned sour and they spent much of the holiday apart.
Mr Nazarowicz, a single father-of-two, had been walking through the ‘nothing to declare’ channel at Birmingham Airport with the woman when they were stopped and searched, and found with the class B drug. During the trial, he claimed that someone at Kingston Airport in Jamaica had tampered with his unlocked bag after it was checked in and some of his clothes had been replaced with the drugs. He was sentenced to two years and 10 months in prison.
