Birmingham Airport passengers down 0.1%
12.02.08
Birmingham Airport handled 576,130 passengers last month, including 476,507 scheduled passengers and 99,623 charter passengers spread across the two passenger terminals. This represented a slight fall - down 0.1% - over the previous year.
Joe Kelly, Managing Director of Birmingham International said: ‘January saw a slight decline in passenger figures over the previous year, which reflects a downturn in leisure travel. However, we received some fantastic news in January with Ryanair announcing a base here at Birmingham and the introduction of 20 new routes commencing onwards from April. This is excellent news for passengers, the airport and the region.’
In January, passengers on Non EU routes were up 6.3% and EU routes up 3.3%. Irish routes were up 9.5% and the Channel Isles routes up 11.9%. Scheduled routes that experienced growth included: Bratislava (+955.4%), Murcia (+335%), Barcelona (+179.5%), Geneva (+94.2%), Arrecife (+88.1%), Paphos (+87.6%), Dusseldorf (+13.6%) and Glasgow (+13.6%).
