Passengers up 2% at Birmingham Airport

Passenger numbers at Birmingham Airport were up by 2% in September, with a total of 969,407 travellers passing through the hub.
Some 642,182 scheduled passengers used the airport last month and 327,225 people used charter services. EU routes saw growth of over 8% in passengers, while non-EU routes saw passenger numbers increased by nearly 5%. Domestic services saw growth of 3.3% and long-haul routes to Asia experienced a 3.9% rise in traffic.
John Kelly, acting managing director of Birmingham Airport, said: 'It has been a busy summer, with travellers taking advantage of the unrivalled choice of summer routes that we have to offer.'
Birmingham's connection to Palma was the scheduled route to see the most growth in September (147.6%), followed by Aberdeen (138.1%) and Malta (72.2%). Charter routes that experienced growth include Malta (26.8%), Tunisia (24.6%) and Egypt.
