Passengers up 9.2% at Birmingham Airport

Birmingham Airport had 635,052 passengers during February, smashing the previous highest figure recorded for the month of February and a 9.2% increase over the previous year. The airport saw 527,799 scheduled passengers and 107,253 charter passengers pass through its two passenger terminals last month.
Joe Kelly, acting managing director of Birmingham Airport said: ‘It was a record-breaking February for the airport, which is great news. We are delighted to have seen bmibaby launch its new route to Krakow in Poland recently, which once again increases the choice available to passengers flying from their local airport. ‘
In February, growth was achieved on Non EU routes of 10.3%, EU routes of 15.4% and domestic routes of 3.9%. The Irish Republic saw an increase of 23.1%, while Services to Asia saw an increase of 1.5%.
Scheduled routes that experienced the highest growth in February includes: Bratislava (+567.6%), Murcia (+229%), Faro (+127.2%), Geneva (+124.2%), Arrecife (+79%), Palma (+63%), Paphos (+54.1%), Nice (+42.9%), Chambery (+30%), Copenhagen (+28.1%), Glasgow (+26.3%), Dusseldorf (+23.9%), Inverness (+19.2%), Zurich (+18.3%), Munich (+15.5%) and Madrid (+15.2%).
Charter routes that experienced growth included Bulgaria (+78.7%), Finland (+34%), Egypt (+22.2%), Canary Isles (+9.1%), France (+6.8%) and Austria (+5%). Scheduled passengers accounted for 83.1% of the total passenger traffic, whilst charter passengers made up the remaining 16.9%.
