Flybe axe IT staff
06.02.09
Flybe, Europe's largest regional budget airline, is making 10 technology staff redundant out of its 60-strong IT department, with a further 20 roles being put at risk, Computing has reported. Consultations are due to finish within one to two weeks, and those affected will receive minimum statutory payments, it adds.
The airline has confirmed that a 'departmental restructuring' is taking place, but said that the redundancies are not linked to the current economic climate. Flybe is the UK's biggest regional airline, with 7.5 million passengers last year. It is currently offering to refund the cost of a holiday to passengers if it has to be cancelled due to redundancy, in a bid to boost sales.
