01.10.11
A Nigerian man has been jailed for six years after trying to smuggle cocaine with a street value of almost £130,000 into the UK through Birmingham Airport. Martins Ndubuisi Onkonkwo, 36, was caught carrying more than half a kilo of cocaine when he arrived on a flight from Cameroon via Zurich on May 18.
He had swallowed the drug but was examined by UK Border Agency officers using a high-tech internal body scanner, which revealed several packages inside his stomach. He was charged with being involved in the importation of a controlled drug, pleaded guilty at Manchester Crown Court and is set to be deported after serving his sentence.
