easyJet scrap Belfast - Gdansk flights
27.02.08
A recently established link between Northern Ireland and Poland is to be scrapped in May. easyJet has said it will axe its two flights a week service from Belfast International Airport to Gdansk on May 20. The airline said the aircraft was to be redeployed to the Prague and Malaga routes, allowing the frequency on these services to be increased.
easyJet launched its Gdansk service just last August, and has blamed low demand for its decision. But the airline will continue to operate from Belfast to Krakow, while rival low cost carrier Wizz Air flies from Belfast to Warsaw and Katowice. A spokesman for Belfast International said it was hopeful that Wizz Air might take over the Gdansk route.
A spokesman for easyJet said: ‘We are notifying passengers who have booked to Gdansk on flights after May 20 and giving them refunds.’ He said the axing of the Gdansk service would enable Prague to increase from four to five flights a week, and Malaga to increase from seven to eight flights a week.
