Bmibaby to switch to Belfast City Airport
25.11.10
Bmibaby has announced it is to switch its operations from Belfast International to Belfast City Airport. The budget airline will fly to Manchester, Birmingham, Cardiff and East Midlands from Belfast City from January.
A spokesman said it is moving because Belfast City offers a more convenient location. The move will provide a boost for the airport after Ryanair pulled out at the end of last month over its frustration at ongoing planning delays on the proposed runway extension that would enable it to fly to more European destinations.
Bmibaby's parent company, bmi British Midland, already operates a frequent route to Heathrow from Belfast City. Chief executive of bmi Wolfgang Prock-Schauer said it made sense to operate all of the group's business out of one airport in Northern Ireland.
