easyJet flight drama at Belfast airport
24.06.08
An easyJet Boeing 737 plane was forced to abort take-off over concerns about weightload at Belfast International Airport yesterday. The captain of the flight to Luton decided not to fly until the weight in the hold had been re-balanced.
The incident caused the passengers on the already delayed 07.30 flight to have to wait for a further for two and a half hours, with the plane finally taking off at 14:00.
easyJet have confirmed the delay was due to a weight distribution issue and a technical problem. The budget airline said in a statement: ‘The flight was initially delayed following a problem with the forward door not opening as easily as it should.'
‘When the aircraft later pushed back, the captain then decided not to proceed with take-off, following an indication of a possible problem involving the distribution of weight and balance of the aircraft.’
The captain is reported to have told passengers that he had 'never witnessed anything like it in 20 years.' easyJet said he was referring to the the coincidence of passengers experiencing two very different issues on their flight, causing the delay of their departure.
