Three men who were caught trying to smuggle over £24,000 of cannabis through Belfast International Airport in 2009 have been jailed. David Dumigan, John Semple and David Redfern were stopped by UK Border Agency staff as they arrived in the city, carrying 2.9kg of the drug.
The three, all from Northern Ireland, had flown in on separate flights from Holland with both herbal and resin cannabis in the lining of a suitcase and in bags. David Dumigan, 30, from Laral Gardens, Newtownabbey, was sentenced to seven months, John Semple of Kilgad Road, Ballymena nine months and David Redfern, 27, from Glengormley seven months, suspended for three years, and a £500 fine.
All pleaded guilty to being knowingly concerned in the fraudulent evasion of the prohibition of controlled drugs.
