Aer Lingus takes millionth Belfast Airport booking
19.05.09
Aer Lingus has taken its millionth booking since launching its base at Belfast International Airport 17 months ago. It is now the second biggest airline operating from the airport, behind low-cost airline easyJet, although it did announce last week that it would suspend five routes next winter.
On its important route between Belfast and Heathrow its load factor was 79% last month, up a quarter on April last year. Flights to Malaga, Lanzarote and Paris routes are also proving popular. However, rival Ryanair, which operates from Belfast City Airport, claims that its services attracted 50% more passengers than Aer Lingus over the last 17 months. Ryanair says it did this while using one Belfast-based aircraft, compared to the three planes at Belfast International for Aer Lingus.
