Aer Lingus announce Belfast - Paris flight; drop Amsterdam rotation
13.02.08
Aer Lingus is to start a new route from Belfast International Airport to Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris on March 30. The new service will operate daily, but in order to facilitate the new route, the airline is dropping one of the twice-daily flights from Belfast to Amsterdam.
The new route announcement comes just days ahead of the launch of four services from the Belfast airport - to Rome, Budapest, Malaga and Faro. From April, it will fly twice a week to Nice. The addition of Paris brings to 10 the total destinations served by Aer Lingus from Belfast.
Aer Lingus will continue to operate one service daily to Amsterdam, which had suffered a poor load factor - a measure of how many seats per flight are sold - since it was launched in December. Figures from the Civil Aviation Authority show the flights to Amsterdam were just 27% full in December.
Aer Lingus chief executive Dermot Mannion said the decision to add the flight to Paris was in response to customer demand. He said 'Our market research has shown strong demand for Paris Charles de Gaulle, while Northern Ireland is increasingly popular with French visitors. We are delighted to be able to capitalise on this demand by launching our low-cost, superior service offering on this route.'
Aer Lingus will compete with easyJet on the Paris route.
