Aer Lingus considering Belfast Airport base
12.06.07
Aer Lingus is is considering opening a hub at Belfast International Airport, according to new press reports. The story first surfaced in February, but new press reports suggest that the Belfast Airport has made it onto a shortlist of UK hubs Aer Lingus is considering as part of a major expansion plan.
If the Irish national airline does choose to open a new base at Belfast International, it could mean up to 15 new European routes and a reinstated Belfast - Heathrow link, reports suggest. Local MP Jeffrey Donaldson adds that it would mean a substantial investment and could lead to the creation of 1000 new jobs.
