Emergency landing at Belfast City Airport for Ryanair plane
11.05.10
A Ryanair plane travelling to Stansted has made an emergency landing at Belfast City Airport shortly after take-off this morning. A Ryanair spokesperson said cabin crew noticed an unusual smell onboard and the decision was taken to turn around and land the plane. All 154 passengers were able to disembark safely. A spokesperson from Belfast City Airport said emergency services were at the scene as a precaution, with some reports suggesting 10 fire appliances attended.
Ryanair said in a statement: ‘Flight FR6122 from Belfast City to Stansted departed on time this morning at 07:10. Shortly after take-off, the cabin crew noticed an ‘acrid smell’ in the cabin, standard procedure was followed and the aircraft turned back and landed normally at 07:30 at Belfast City airport, where all passengers disembarked normally using the aircraft steps. Ryanair engineers will now examine the aircraft, before releasing it to return to service later this morning.’
