Ryanair boss confident no inquiry for Belfast City Airport expansion

Ryanair boss Michael O'Leary has said that he is 'fairly satisfied' the Northern Ireland Planning Service will approve the proposal for a longer runway at Belfast City Airport. Speaking on a BBC Spotlight programme to be broadcast today, the budget airline's Chief Executive said that he believes the runway will be extended, despite growing opposition to the move.
Such a development is essential to Ryanair's progress in Belfast as it is needed to allow the airline to fill all the seats on aircraft already being operated. It currently cannot do this because of weight restrictions on the 'short' runaway.
The planned extension would also allow larger aircraft to use the airport and for current aircraft to fly to continental destinations with a heavier fuel and passenger load. This would open up a whole new 'world' of holiday destinations for the company, by attracting leisure business to Mediterranean destinations, Mr O'Leary said.
