easyJet axe Belfast – Berlin flights
09.07.08
easyJet said today that the axing of its service during the winter period from Belfast International Airport to Berlin was based on low demand rather that high fuel costs, the Evening Telegraph reports.
A spokeswoman for the budget airline confirmed that the Berlin service would be suspended from the start of November. She told the newspaper: ‘EasyJet will not operate to Berlin from Belfast this winter due to low demand for the route.’
This is the fifth time in a fortnight that a reduction in operations from Belfast has been announced by an airline. Last month, Flybe axed its direct service from George Best City Airport to Paris, blaming the soaring cost of oil. Aer Lingus is pulling the plug on its services to Geneva and Budapest, but the airline blames poor bookings rather than fuel costs. And Jet2 is pulling back on its flights to Barcelona and Blackpool for the duration of the winter timetable.
In addition, it had already been announced that Wizzair was stopping its flights to Katowice and that easyJet is ceasing its service to Gdansk.
