Reader slams Belfast City Airport parking

A reader wrote to the Belfast Telegraph newspaper to complain about the cost of parking at Belfast City Airport. He pointed out that it had cost him less to fly to England and back than to park at the airport for a day and a half.
The reader said: 'I have never felt so ripped off in my long years of travelling. I arrived back at the Belfast City Airport from East Midlands Airport on Wednesday (return fare courtesy of Ryanair, £20) to find the display on the car park machine showing £21 for 36 hours’ parking.'
'I checked with a member of staff to make sure there was no mistake. This is exorbitant. It is only slightly less than I would pay to park for a week at Belfast International, with a choice of car parks.'
'In that last phrase lies the explanation. There is a total monopoly at Belfast City which is being used to inflate charges on the travelling public. Is there no consumer or travel trade organisation that can take this issue up with those who fix these rates? A return fare to England for less than the parking fee, come on!'
