Bomb alert closes Belfast Airport
03.03.08
A security alert closed the terminal at Belfast International Airport today. Police said two packages found at the long-stay car park around lunchtime were treated as suspicious.
The airport had been closed for almost an hour while a controlled explosion was carried out by Army technical officers. A PSNI spokesperson said police were examining closed-circuit television footage in a bid to discover how the packages came to be there.
The terminal was evacuated, with some delays to flights in and out of the airport. The closure also led to traffic chaos with a mile-long queue of vehicles stretching back along the main airport road.
