Flybe reports strong demand for new Belfast routes

Flybe, who stepped into the breach following the departure of Ryanair from Belfast City Airport, has reported a positive first few days for its new routes. The routes to Bristol, East Midlands and Liverpool started on Sunday, bringing the total number of routes offered by the regional budget airline from its Belfast hub to 17.
The flights operate four times a day to Liverpool and twice a day to both Bristol and East Midlands. Flybe announced its new routes, which will offer 100 additional flights a week from the airport, after Ryanair said it was pulling out of Belfast in August. Its last flight took off on Sunday, after a row over delays to the planned runway extension.
Andrea Hayes, Flybe's manager of market development, said that there is strong demand from both business and tourism customers for the new flights. She said: ‘Passengers have told us they are delighted that they can continue to fly direct from Belfast City Airport to these destinations. Northern Ireland depends on air links such as these for growth and development and we are delighted to be able to take over these three crucial routes.'
‘We recognise that for a country such as Northern Ireland that depends so much on air links for its economic, social and tourism wellbeing, that reliability and dependability are key factors towards growth and development. Flybe has been serving the community in Northern Ireland for over 26 years. We are committed to continue providing comprehensive connectivity throughout the UK and beyond to convenient destinations at competitive prices with maximum flexibility and choice.’
