Belfast City Airport curbs to be relaxed
02.09.08
Planning controls at Belfast City Airport limiting the number of passengers and aircraft movements are set to be relaxed, the Belfast Telegraph reports. It says that a new draft planning agreement has been produced, and is currently being examined by interested parties.
According to the newspaper, the revised agreement will contain two key changes:
a) the cap on seats for sale per annum to be raised from three million inbound and outbound to four million; and
b) the limit on aircraft movements to be increased from 45,000 a year to 48,000.
However, the night-time curfew at the airport will remains in place, barring any scheduled arrivals or departures between 21:30 and 06:30.
The draft planning agreement has been produced by the Department of the Environment after an Examination in Public held in June 2006. The Telegraph reports that the planning agreement will be finalised shortly and details made public. It was unable to get a comment from the DoE nor Belfast City Airport.
In a separate development, the newspaper reports that the airport’s new owner will be named next month following its sale by current owner Ferrovial.
