Minister announces review of Belfast City Airport operating rules
01.10.11
Northern Ireland's Environment Minister, Alex Attwood, is to change the rules that govern the number and type of air traffic that can use Belfast City airport. He announced yesterday that he had started an independent public review to modify the planning agreement that controls the number of flights, hours of operation and the type of planes that can use the facility.
Mr Attwood said he wants to achieve a fair system of noise management that provides appropriate protection for the local community, but also achieves the right balance between the economic benefits of airport expansion and the need to protect the quality of life for local residents. A final decision will be made in 2012.
