Each month our website sponsor - www.airport-hotels-guide.co.uk, the UK's leading airport hotel price comparison website - adds up all of their airport hotel sales, and detail the most popular airport hotels at each UK airport. They also compare bookings made this month with last month, and highlight trends in the year to date - in this case for the whole of 2005.
Over the last few months we have published this breakdown to give it a wider audience. The most popular airport hotel at the smaller UK airports (based on bookings through the www.airport-hotels-guide.co.uk website) for December 2005 were - click on any of the links for more information on that hotel:
Aberdeen Airport: in all of the 12 months of the year to date now, the Britannia Hotel Aberdeen Airport has been the most popular hotel. There are other hotels at aberdeen airport, including the Holiday Inn Hotel Aberdeen Airport, Marriott Hotel Aberdeen Airport and the Thistle Hotel Aberdeen Airport, but people seem to prefer the Britannia.
Belfast Airport: for the last 7 months the on airport Park Plaza Hotel Belfast Airport (formerly the Fitzwilliam) has held the top spot from the leader first 5 months of this year - the Hilton Templepatrik Hotel Belfast. The Park Plaza is much more of an 'airport hotel' than the Hilton Templepatrick. It is only 50 metres from the terminal, but the exceptional facilities at the Templepatrik (leisure facilities, a golf course and even it's own fishing) make this a popular choice, especially for leisure travellers.
Bristol Airport: as in the last twelve months, the Town and Country Hotel Bristol Airport, which is the closest hotel to the airport and offers a 'with free parking' package, continued to beat off competition from the Days Inn Hotel Bristol (which also offers 'free' airport parking) and the Jurys Inn Hotel Bristol (which doesn't). On a year to date basis the Town and Country Hotel Bristol Airport is top, followed by the Days Inn then the Jurys Inn.
Cardiff Airport: as in the last 11 months, the Days Inn Hotel Cardiff Airport remains the top, with January's number 1, the Airlodge Cardiff Airport, in second place.
East Midlands Airport: The Express Holiday Inn Hotel East Midlands Airport took top spot in April and has retained it ever since. As last month, March's top hotel, the 4 star Hilton Hotel East Midlands Airport was second with the Thistle Hotel East Midlands Airport, which had been top for the first two months of the year, third. The Kegworth Whitehouse Hotel East Midlands Airport was forth with the hotels in these same places on a year to date basis.
Edinburgh Airport: for the first 3 months of the year it was a two horse race for top spot between the on airport Hilton Hotel Edinburgh Airport and the almost on airport Quality Hotel Edinburgh Airport, with the Marriott Hotel Edinburgh Airport a close third. However, for the last 9 months now, the Quality was at the top by a clear margin, with the Marriott and Hilton fighting for second and third. The Capital Hotel Edinburgh Airport, which is slightly further away, is a less popular forth. Year to date it is the Quality, followed by the Hilton and the Marriott.
Leeds Bradford Airport: the Holiday Inn Hotel Leeds Bradford, the only real choice for a hotel close to Leeds Bradford airport, was the most popular leeds bradford airport hotel for the twelth month running.
Liverpool Airport: as at a number of regional airports, there is only one hotel close to Liverpool Airport, the excellent Marriott South Hotel Liverpool Airport. Over the last few months APH have offered the Adephi Hotel Liverpool with parking, but we have yet to see significant bookings for this city centre hotel.
Newcastle Airport: the Holiday Inn Hotel Newcastle Airport took top spot for the first time in 5 months in August and retained it in September, but dropped back to second in October, as the Britannia Hotel Newcastle Airport re-took top spot. The Novotel Newcastle Airport Hotel was third. On a year to date basis the Britannia leads from the Holiday Inn, then the Novotel.
Southampton Airport: the Holiday Inn Hotel Eastleigh is the most popular hotel for Southampton airport, because it is the closest to the airport. The other hotels offered for this airport are not as close - the Park Hotel Southampton, is near the centre of the city and doesn't offer a 'with airport parking' package and the Holiday Inn Hotel Fareham, is nearer to cruise ship port (and so better for cruise passengers).
