New Aberdeen Airport car park approved – despite BAA objection

Plans for a 1014-space car park on land next to Aberdeen Airport have been has been backed by councillors, despite objections from BAA. Members of the city’s planning committee unanimously approved proposals, which would see farmland next to the airport transformed in to a new car park.
A new access road with a mini roundabout also forms part of the plans, which cover land at Upper Farburn Road in Dyce. The plans were lodged by Ribnort Ltd – but BAA, which runs the airport, objected to the scheme because they would hit its own application for two hotels and a car park on land south of the site. This proposal is currently going through the appeal process after it was rejected by councillors.
Council officials said they were happy with the car-park application from Ribnort, subject to a number of conditions including that the car park is only used by staff, visitors and passengers at Aberdeen Airport. A shuttle bus must also be provided between the car park and the terminal.
An Aberdeen Airport spokesman said: ‘BAA Aberdeen had raised concerns about this application and these concerns remain, despite the authority arriving at this decision. We hope to be able to work closely with the council and the developers to try to resolve the issues.’
