Ground crew strikes at Aberdeen and Heathrow called off
21.12.09
Baggage handlers and check-in staff at Heathrow and Aberdeen airports have called off a series of 48-hour strikes. Unite union members working for SAS Ground Services had been due to strike from tomorrow (22 December), with further strikes from Boxing Day and 3 January in a row over pay.
The stoppages were set to affect travellers on Emirates, Turkish and Thai airlines at Heathrow and KLM, Air France and Wideroe and Atlantic from Aberdeen. They were called off after staff received a new pay offer from their employer.
The Unite union said today that it will ballot baggage handlers and check-in staff at the two airports on whether to accept the new offer on pay and working conditions from SAS Ground Services.
