New air service from Aberdeen airport to Stornoway announced
20.09.05
A new daily air service between Aberdeen airport and Stornoway is to be launched at the beginning of next year by Eastern Airways. This will mean that passengers will not have to travel to Inverness for flights to the Western Isles.
At the moment travelling between Aberdeen and the Western Isles can be expensive and often time-consuming. Only Inverness Airport operates flights to Stornoway - and the only other option for travellers is to take the ferry from Ullapool.
But from January Eastern Airways - which operates around 750 flights a week throughout the UK - will introduce a new route between Stornoway and Aberdeen. A spokesman said they expect strong demand for the service and applauded both Highlands and Islands Airports and Aberdeen Airport for taking an innovative approach to route development.
Eastern Airways plan to launch the service in January next year, but they say this could be brought forward, subject to aircraft deliveries. Flight timings will be announced in the coming weeks.
