Aberdeen Airport walkway opened
17.06.09
Scottish Transport Minister Stewart Stevenson opened a £2.3 million walkway at Aberdeen Airport yesterday, aimed at improving the travel experience for passengers. The extension to the main terminal provides covered and segregated corridors for arrivals and departures, and its completion marked the first phase of redevelopment at the airport.
Phases two and three of the redevelopment will involve an extension of the international arrivals hall, with improvements in passport control, baggage reclaim and greater floor space to reduce congestion. There is also ongoing work in the short-stay car park where a multi-storey parking facility is being built.
Unveiling a plaque in the new walkway, Mr Stevenson said: ‘Aberdeen Airport is a very important part of the local transport infrastructure, and is used by a large number of businesses. If the airport wasn’t here, much of our business wouldn’t be either.’
‘The £2.3 million that we’ve seen being invested in the new walkway will certainly avoid the particularly wintry draft that people can feel when they shuffle off planes and I think it is an excellent step forward for the airport.’
