Around 30 guests were struck down with a vomiting bug at an Aberdeen Airport hotel, the Evening Express reports. A guest said people were even vomiting at the front door of the Marriott hotel in Aberdeen’s Dyce. Aberdeen City Council health officers launched an investigation and found no problems with food at the hotel.
The outbreak of the bug happened on Sunday at the busy airport hotel. A guest told the newspaper that he was struck down by the vomiting bug while staying at the hotel with his wife. He said: ‘People were being sick outside. I don’t know what caused it. There seemed to be lots with it. I think it was a 24 hour thing.’
A NHS Grampian spokesman told the Express: ‘Our Health Protection Team. together with Aberdeen City Council's Environmental Health Department are currently investigating an outbreak of vomiting and diarrhoea associated with a hotel in Aberdeen. Approximately 30 guests have reported symptoms.' An Aberdeen City Council spokeswoman added: ‘Environmental health officers visited the hotel and found nothing untoward.’
General manager of the Marriott Hotel Aberdeen Airport, Chris McGuinness, said: ‘A small number of guests reported sickness. Inspectors concluded there was no evidence of this being a food-borne illness, but that the possible cause was an airborne norovirus. We are unaware of any further cases since the weekend.’
