Helicopter emergency at Aberdeen Airport
15.09.10
Firefighters were called to Aberdeen Airport after a helicopter carrying 17 oil workers sent out an emergency alert yesterday, the Evening Express reports. The two-man crew of the Bristow-operated EC225 Super Puma reported an emergency after a warning light flashed in the cockpit.
Grampian Fire and Rescue had a crew on standby for about 25 minutes, but the aircraft landed safely. A spokesman for Bristow Helicopters told the newspaper: ‘We can confirm that an EC225 helicopter landed safely at Aberdeen Airport today after a caution light illuminated in the cockpit during a routine flight. As standard procedure, the airport's emergency services were informed. The aircraft is currently being inspected.’
The alarm was the second incident in four days involving a Bristow helicopter at the airport. Last Friday another EC225 Super Puma was forced to fly on less than half power after suffering a suspected rotor problem.
