Aberdeen Airport blames aviation industry woes for fall in passengers
14.09.08
Bosses at Aberdeen Airport blamed the continued rise in fuel costs and the credit crunch for the forth straight month of passenger fall. The figures round off a disappointing summer for the airport, which has seen a consistent decline in passengers compared with the same figures last year.
Passengers at the north-east gateway were down 5.4% in August compared with the same month last year. The airport, which handled 299,197 passengers, saw a sharp decline of 8.4% in customers on domestic flights, but did see an increase of 1.4% in international passengers and a 20.2% rise in charter traffic.
The figures also show a sharper decline in passengers compared with July, where passenger numbers fell by 2.6%. Aberdeen Airport managing director Kevin Brown said: ‘Tough economic conditions continue to affect both airlines and the travelling public.'
