Aberdeen flights targeted by lasers
14.01.09
Two passenger planes landed safely at Aberdeen Airport after the pilots were distracted on their approach by powerful lasers. It is thought the lasers were being directed from the Mastrick or Northfield area of the city. Grampian Police said the two incidents happened between 18:00 to 18:30 on Tuesday.
An Eastern Airways spokesman said: ‘As two of our flights were approaching Aberdeen to land a laser light from the ground was aimed at them. Both of our pilots reported the incidents to police as they were extremely concerned that safety could be compromised during the landing approach due to the irresponsible actions of an individual on the ground.’
