Competition Commission wants more information published by Aberdeen Airport
13.02.09
The UK competition watchdog wants Aberdeen Airport to publish detailed financial information about its operations. The proposal came in an announcement from the Competition Commission yesterday, offering alternatives to remedies it came up with in December in an attempt to promote investment in the airport.
The Commission wants to increase transparency and highlight potential areas requiring inquiry by customers and regulators. It said publication of the financial details should be accompanied by an explicit obligation on Aberdeen to act in a fair, reasonable and non-discriminatory manner regarding charges to airlines and other ‘relevant users’.
In a report it added: ‘The objective of this remedy would be to raise awareness and transparency of the basis of possible charges, provide an incentive for appropriate charging and help identify possible areas needing investigation.’
