The Plane hit by a vehicle at Aberdeen Airport on Friday evening was preparing for take off. Initial reports had suggested the engines were off, but it now appears that the engines were running when the plane was struck by a ground power unit.
The plane was preparing to move back from its stands when the vehicle hit a propeller. An Aberdeen airport spokesman said: 'The engines were running. There were no reports of any flying metal, however.'
All 54 passengers and crew on board the British Airways City Express service and ground crew escaped injury. Three fire engines and a rescue unit as well as ambulances and police went to the scene on Friday at 19:30 but were stood down.
The twin-propeller aircraft, which had been full, was taken out of action. The spokesman said the ground power unit - which is like a giant battery charger - was 'very badly damaged'.
Around 35 passengers who had to catch a connecting flight to Florida were taken to Manchester by bus. The accident was reported to the Air Accident Investigation Bureau.
