Aberdeen Airport grows faster than Scottish rivals
11.03.06
Aberdeen airport is Scotland's fastest-growing major airport, new passenger statistics reveal. Growth at Aberdeen outstripped that at both Edinburgh and Glasgow airports last month.
The airport handled 11 percent more passengers in February than the same month last year, with international routes including Bergen, Copenhagen and Dublin proving increasingly popular. Some 211,354 passengers passed through its doors last month, breaching the 200,000 barrier for the first time in February.
The double-digit growth was thanks mainly to a growing appetite for international travel, with passengers bound for non-UK destinations up 19 percent. More passengers are set to use the airport later this year too, with a new route to Amsterdam set to debut on March 27.
Airport boss Andy Flower said: 'It is significant that in what is traditionally a quiet month, Aberdeen Airport achieved a new record.'
