Bid to cut 'kiss and fly' trips at Aberdeen Airport
10.01.08
To the traveller it is an innocent but reassuring farewell - a family member or friend dropping them off at the airport before a flight. But Aberdeen Airport bosses view this type of trip - referred to as 'kiss-and-fly' - as the 'least desirable' means of getting to the airport, the Evening Express reports.
Kiss-and-fly trips currently account for one in three passenger journeys to the airport, but its new Surface Access Strategy says: 'For each passenger who uses 'kiss-and-fly' for an outward and return air trip a total of four journeys are made compared to the passenger who drives to the airport and parks or hires a car at the airport, where only two journeys are made.'
Looking at ways of discouraging this, the strategy adds: 'Pricing [airport parking] excessively could discouraging parking at the airport and so increase 'kiss-and-fly'. Lack of short-stay car parking capacity could have a similar effect.'
