Council to back Aberdeen Airport expansion plans
09.03.06
Aberdeenshire Council is today expected to back a proposed multimillion-pound expansion of Aberdeen Airport, according to a report in the Aberdeen Press & Journal.
A £50 million master plan includes a bigger terminal and a £10 million runway extension capable of accommodating long-haul flights. The council claims a longer runway has the potential to lead to improved operational and energy efficiency and opening up new business opportunities for Scotland's North-east.
BAA, Britain's biggest airport operator, says the master plan for Aberdeen will create 4000 jobs by 2030 and permit 5.3 million passengers a year to fly to a much more exotic range of destinations than at present.
