Flyglobespan scraps Aberdeen - Geneva flights
03.08.07
Another airline has cut routes from Aberdeen Airport, this time before the route even took off. Scottish budget airline Flyglobespan has announced that it will scrap its flights to Geneva, planned for this winter, saying a lack of bookings means that the route is 'not viable'.
The airline becomes the fifth carrier to announce it is cutting flights in recent weeks. Ryanair recently announced it will stop its Liverpool flights. Fledgling carrier Jetstream Express scrapped its Aberdeen - Blackpool service, bmi is scrapping its Brussels flights and Monarch is scrapping its Malaga flights.
A spokesman for Flyglobespan said that it had only taken 100 bookings so far for its flights to the Swiss city, which were due to take off each Sunday between December and April. He added: 'We are very sorry for the inconvenience but the route was just not going to be economically viable.'
Flyglobespan only announced the flights to Geneva in May, along with services to Alicante, Malaga, Paphos, Palma, Madeira and Prague. The spokesman said that there are no plans to scrap other routes.
