Ryanair passengers up 5% in 2011 to 76m

Ryanair carried 5% more passengers in 2011 than a year earlier, with over 76m passenger, up from 72m in 2010. The budget airline's 2011 traffic highlights also included a new record of 8.1m passengers in August (up 6% on August 2010).
Its busiest day was Friday August 12, when over 280,000 flew on over 1,600 Ryanair flights. The busiest booking day was March 28, when over 310,000 bookings were made on www.ryanair.com.
The budget airline has cut capacity this winter, grounding 80 aircraft to avoid flying routes made unprofitable by higher fuel prices. Its 2011 / 12 winter traffic is expected to fall by around 5%.
