Ryanair is not buying planes
07.10.10
Another mixed signal from Ryanair, after its chief executive Michael O'Leary said he is not ready to buy new planes just yet. His comment comes less than a week after the budget airline's finance director suggested Ryanair could buy from Airbus and a month since O’Leary himself said that airline could buy up to 300 planes.
Mr OLeary said his company meets twice a year with both Airbus and Boeing but called those meetings routine discussions. [The Airbus talks must be quite quick given their recent and past comments about the airline !]
He said: ‘We are not in active negotiations’ about buying aircraft. ‘Right now we are at the bottom of the cycle,’ the economic downturn has forced many airlines to trim fleets, filling the used planes market, but ‘we are too big to be buying aircraft on the second-hand market.’
