Ryanair passengers up 20%; load factor down 1%
04.10.08
Ryanair flew more than 5 million passengers last month, 20% more than the same period last year, although it did not fill its planes quite as efficiently.
Passenger numbers jumped to 5.23 million in September, up from 4.35 million in 2007, taking the total number of passengers flown during the last 12 months to 56 million. However, its load factor, a measure of how full its planes were on average, slipped one percentage point to 84% (and is 81% for the 12 month period).
A spokesman said: ‘A lot of price sensitive leisure passengers have switched from rival, high fares airlines, to Ryanair. However, in light of the current crisis in banking and financial institutions we are confident that we will soon seen more bankers migrate to Ryanair also.’
