Southampton Airport expects busy weekend

Southampton Airport is preparing for a busy bank holiday weekend, as over 23,000 people will be passing through the terminal. The top 10 destinations on the departures board will be Edinburgh, Jersey, Guernsey, Dublin, Glasgow, Belfast, Amsterdam, Newcastle, Manchester and Alicante, with Paris, Brussels, Düsseldorf and Bordeaux also popular.
Passengers will also be arriving into the region for holidays, or to visit their friends and relatives, and increasing numbers of passengers are using the airport to link up with cruise ships in the Port of Southampton. This weekend nine cruise ships will sail into the port, including Queen Mary 2, Grand Princess, Oceana, Independence of the Seas, Black Watch, Aurora, Queen Victoria, Oriana and Ventura.
Jan Halliday, Director of Marketing & Communications at Southampton Airport, said: ‘This weekend is set to be busy for passengers jetting off to one of 45 destinations from Southampton Airport. We are also expecting to see many visitors to this region especially from France, Germany and Holland, who are taking advantage of the euro exchange rate and holidaying in the south. The presence of nine cruise ships in the port will also many cruise passengers using the airport as a really easy way to start their holiday.’
