Record year for Southampton Airport

Southampton Airport enjoyed the busiest year in its 98 year history last year, with 1.96 million passengers passing through the terminal - an increase of 2.8 percent on 2006. The hub now serves 46 destinations with 14 airline and tour operator partners, with Flybe by far the largest.
The most popular routes in 2007 included; Edinburgh, Manchester, Glasgow, Jersey, Guernsey, Paris, Dublin, Newcastle, Belfast and Amsterdam.
New routes included to Frankfurt and Nice with Flybe, Verona with Inghams, Angers in the Loire Valley with Eastern Airways, its first ever French route, and Channel Islands based airline Blue Islands added a new daily flight to Guernsey.
Chris Butler, managing director at Southampton Airport, said: '2007 was a record year for the airport, with over 1.9 million people using their local airport for both business and leisure travel. Around 1200 people work at Southampton Airport in 30 different companies, and I would like to thank them all for their hard work and dedication in 2007.'
