Southampton Airport shut by cable accident
13.07.06
Southampton Airport was forced to close to flights yesterday, after workmen accidentally cut through vital communications cables. Airport operator BAA said about 35 flights in and out of the airport had to be diverted, delayed or cancelled.
Flights resumed at 16:30 but British Telecom were continuing to carry out repairs. The airport's telephone system was still down last night and passengers were being asked to speak directly with their airline.
