Robin Hood Airport road delayed over funding shortfall
26.09.09
The financial case for a new link road to help create jobs at Robin Hood Airport and surrounding areas is to be revised and resubmitted following uncertainty over funding. The Department for Transport (DfT) made the request, which will cost an extra £1.5 million, concerning the business case submission for funding for the Finningley and Rossington Regeneration Route Scheme (FARRRS).
A report submitted to the mayor and members of the cabinet yesterday highlights a current shortfall of £11.3 million in the funding for construction, which is estimated to cost £163 million. It also estimates that the remaining development work required to progress the scheme in preparation for the start of construction in 2013 is £6.9 million. Details of funding for FARRRS, that business experts believe is key to delivering £1 billion of investment and 14,000 jobs by 2030, is contained in the report. Submission of the revised plan is not expected until Spring 2010.
