Delays possible as work begins on access road at Robin Hood Airport
22.07.07
Robin Hood Airport has warned passengers of possible traffic problems as work starts on a new access road tomorrow. The new stretch of road, which will be one kilometre long, will become the main access route between the A638 and the airport. However, the development will mean Hurst Lane will be closed from the junction with the A638 from tomorrow (July 23) until the first week of September.
Drivers heading to the airport from the south through Bawtry and from the north through Doncaster will be diverted along High Common Lane onto the A614 through Finningley and Blaxton. The diversion to the airport will be clearly signposted, but people are being advised to allow extra time for the journey to the airport.
David Ryall, managing director of Robin Hood Airport said: 'The airport access road is an essential component to creating improved access for those travelling by car and public transport to the airport. It is also tangible evidence of the airport's continuing development.'
'The access road incorporates environmental design features such as wildlife underpasses, improved footpath links and dedicated cycle lanes. Above all, traffic travelling to the airport will not need to pass through Auckley village. This access road is a step further towards the airport being linked with the local motorway network.'
