Robin Hood Airport receives pet flight clearance
21.08.10
Pooches and pets in South Yorkshire can now take to the skies thanks to Robin Hood Airport’s new pet passport scheme. The airport has become one of only six in the country to allow animals to jet off with their owners after receiving approval from the Anglo European scheme.
The pets travel scheme has received backing from the Department for Environment Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA), who work to protect the rural environment, and government agency ‘Animal Health’ who protect the welfare of animals and aim to prevent outbreaks of serious animal diseases. Thomson are currently the only airline allowing pets to travel on their planes in comfort from Robin Hood Airport and pets will need their own valid pet passport.
Jodi Stow, marketing and communications manager at Robin Hood Airport said: ‘We are thrilled to offer pets and their owners this fantastic service enabling them both to fly from Robin Hood Airport. To be one of only six airports in the UK to be operating the pet passport scheme is a huge privilege, and we hope that people in the region can benefit from such a unique convenience for their loved and cherished pets.’
