EU rule means passenger flights on wartime plane to end
13.04.08
Passenger flights from Robin Hood Airport in a wartime Dakota aircraft are to end, because of new European regulations. Rules coming into force in the summer will stop the famous DC3 aircraft from taking off with passengers on tour flights.
During WWII, the iconic 36-seater aircraft carried British paratroopers to fight Germany, dropping soldiers to famous battles including Arnhem and D-Day. But tour firm Classic Flight is having to axe passenger flights in the aircraft because they do not have modern navigation equipment needed to comply with new European regulation.
The last flight by the Dakota at the airport will be next weekend (April 19 and 20). The £65 flights can be booked online at: www.classicflight.com, or by calling 08703 304 747.
