New boss at Robin Hood Airport
10.07.08
A former mineworker is the new chief executive at Robin Hood Airport, owners Peel announced today. Qualified mining engineer Mike Morton had a 21-year career in the coal industry before switching to aviation and takes the airport director's job after heading up operations at Coventry Airport.
Mr Morton, who starts the Doncaster job immediately, was operations director at Coventry Airport for three years. He previously spent 12 years working for a number of aviation companies in areas including ground handling and air cargo. He said today that he is confident that the transport hub was well-placed to capitalise on opportunities, although he recognised ‘challenging times ahead’ for the industry.
The appointment follows a restructuring of the Peel Airports Group. Mr Morton takes over from Robin Hood's previous airport chief David Ryall who stood down in January almost three years on from the airport's launch. Also based at Doncaster is the company's new aviation sales director, Nick Smillie, who will be responsible for increasing passenger business.
