Military aircraft using Robin Hood Airport

RAF crews may have moved out years ago - but military aircraft are still using the former RAF Finningley runway, now part of Robin Hood Airport. According to press reports, the site is being used by air forces and airlines for training purposes in addition to its regular role as a civil airport.
Among the aircraft seen using the airport has been a C-27 Spartan transport plane, a type operated by the Italian air force, seen landing at the airport this week. It was one of a number of aircraft which have been seen carrying out training flights this week, also including an Oasis Hong Kong jumbo jet.
A spokesman said: ‘Robin Hood Airport regularly welcomes commercial and military crew training, due to our location and high standards of service. Airlines are required to carry out frequent training for both new and existing flight deck - pilots and first officers.’
